Short hiking tour from Samarkand or Dushanbe
Description of itinerary:
Duration: 4 days/3 nights
Day 1: Samarkand border - Artuch Camp - Lake Chukurak
Day 2: Lake Chukurak – Kulikalon Lakes – Bibidzhanat Lake 2800m.
Day 3: Kulikalon lakes - Alaudin Lake
Day 4: Alaudin Lake - Samarkand border
Day 1. Jarteppa (Samarkand) border – Artuch (80km; 3h drive) - hike to Chukurak lake
Meeting at the Jarteppa border and drive to Artuch Camp. After a delicious lunch made from fresh local products, we set off on an acclimatization hike to Lake Chukurak (2455 m). Visiting local residents, where they live in temporary shelters and graze livestock. Local people bake delicious milk cakes on a stone according to a traditional recipe. A treat with local milk products. Overnight at tent.
Day 2. Chukurak lake – Kulikalon Lakes – Bibidzhanat Lake 2800m (8km; 5h hike)
The beginning of the active part of the hike. Ascent along a good path to the Kulikalon lakes. The first days our backpacks will carry donkeys, this will facilitate our acclimatization and reduce the load. Our route begins with an ascent along the waterfall and the Khodzharovat and Ruzirovat mountains. On the way up, during the day, there is an opportunity to admire the wonderful panorama of the majestic Kulikalon wall and the surrounding peaks over 4000m (Adamtash, Mirali, Rudaki, etc.). On the way – inspection of the Kulikalon Lakes (14 lakes in total) with the purest emerald-blue water. The lake inhabit with cold water fish Marinka. The trail goes through a picturesque juniper forest. After lunch, a walk along the lakes of the Kulikalon depression. We will set up a camp on the shore of Lake Bibidzhanat. Overnight in tent.
Day 3: Kulikalon lakes - lake Alaudin (7.5km, 6h)
Today ascend Alaudin pass. Trek over Alaudin Pass (3860m) to Alaudin Lake. On the way up you will hopefully see vultures and eagles hovering in the blue sky. Enjoy a birds-eye view of Dushaha Lake and the entire Kulikalon Lake system. From the stony pass saddle impressive views eastwards to Chapdara River valley open up. Left to right, see snow and ice-clad Chapdara Peak (5,050 m), Bodhona Peak (5,138m) and Zamok Peak (5070m), a clear-cut pyramid of Kaznok Peak (4200m) and a “bowing head” of Adamtash Peak (4700m). Down in the valley bottom see a blue speck of Alauddin Lake (in fact, one of two major lakes) varying in colour from lilac to deep turquoise and providing a stunning contrast against the backdrop of the Chimtarga wall. Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Alauddin lake - Samarkand border (or Dushanbe)
Early breakfast transfer back to Samarkand border or Dushanbe. End of tour!
