Classical 7-day tour of Tajikistan -  is an excellent choice for those who wish to learn more about the multi-faceted culture and the history of the Tajik people.The trip will start in the capital of the country – Dushanbe. There you will experience of the modern life of Tajikistan, and discover many interesting facts about the history of the region after visiting the Museum of Antiquity. Later you will have a trip to the Hissar fortress (18th century) after which it will proceed towards Istaravshan. This colorful city has a special oriental spirit – take a walk along the local bazaar, pay a visit to religious monuments and experience the ancient town of Mug-tepa. After that, you will meet the old city Penjikent and its sights dating back to the 5-8th centuries. And now about Seven lakes that is incredible creature of the nature. Lake Iskanderkul, that took its name after Alexander the Great, will conclude your tour.The return trip to Dushanbe will pass through mountains with another overnight.

 

Day 1: Arrival in Dushanbe 

Arrival in Dushanbe international Airport and you will be met by our team and transferred to the hotel for chek in. Free time. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2: Dushanbe

Dushanbe: a perfectly pleasant startingl city!

 After breakfast we start a tour of Dushanbe. We have enough time to discover Dushanbe. Place to visit today:

   - Rudaki Park: The most beautiful park in Dushanbe is located next to the National Museum. Its tree-lined paths have everything from the Palais des Nations (where the president works) to eccentric things like the second tallest flagpole in the world. Visit the museum after visiting the museum, but be aware that the park really comes alive at night.

   - Navruz Palace: A royal palace that hasn't been seen anywhere else, with incredible decoration inside.

   - Mehrgon Bazaar: A large bazaar in the north of the city where you can buy everything from diced fresh carrots to stuffed dried dates.

   - Independence Square: a new park with a 124-meter tower. From the top of the tower you can see the whole city of Dushanbe and its surroundings. The park and the tower were built in honor of the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Tajikistan. It is currently considered the most beautiful park in Tajikistan.

  - National Museum: The museum has several interesting collections that you will enjoy: some frescoes from Old Panjakent and the entire top floor with unique works by Tajik artists. Overnight at hotel. 

Day 3: Dushanbe Khujand 

Departure to the city of Khujand (320km; 5h)

Khujand was the farthest point reached by Alexander the Great in Central Asia, the city was named Alexandria Eskhate (Far Alexandria), the city became one of the important transit points on the Great Silk Road.

Arrival in Khujand in the afternoon. After lunch go to explore the city. Places that you visit in Khujand today:

  - Pushkin Square with Kamoli Khujandi Square;

  - Fortress of Timur Malik and Sogd Museum;

  - Memorial complex of Muslihiddin;

  - Panjshanbe bazaar (the central market of Khujand, which has many shops offering various types of goods and services. The name Panjshanbe comes from the Persian language meaning "Thursday". Panjshanbe is considered one of the oldest markets in Tajikistan. The Silk Road that passes through the city of Khujand . has always made Panjshanbe crowded with traders and tourists).

  - Arbob Palace (Arbob Palace was of particular importance in 1992, when it was a meeting place for Tajik Soviet ministers who officially declared independence from the Soviet Union. In addition, it was the place where the Tajik flag was chosen). Overnight in hotel. 

Day 4: Khujand Penjikent 

Drive to Penjikent (280 km, 5h). 

Panjakent: an ancient welcome to Tajikistan!

Panjakent was once the capital of the Sogdian Empire, a Zoroastrian civilization well predating Islam in the region. There are several ancient sites in the area worth visiting on your way to the mountains.

Places to visit around Panjakent:

Sarazm: A stone’s throw away from the border crossing are the UNESCO-listed ruins of Sarazm. More than 5,000 years old, they’re remains of the first agricultural society in Central Asia. A remarkably tall human skeleton, dubbed the “Princess of Sarazm”, was found here with some of her ornaments. Archaeologists also found artifacts indicating ancient trading routes stretching as far as modern day Iran and Pakistan.

Panjakent Bazaar: This bazaar has a beautiful central building ringed by brick archways. It’s a good place to stock up on trekking snacks like nuts and dried fruits, or get your first taste of Tajik hospitality.

Old Panjakent: The 1,500+ year old ruins of ancient Panjakent are outside the city, accessible by taxi or hitchhiking. The hilltop site spans several kilometers; roam through it at your leisure. Here archaeologists found remarkably well-preserved frescoes. They’ve since been relocated to the Rudaki Museum in Panjakent, the National Museum in Dushanbe, and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia. You can see copies in the small museum at the Old Panjakent entrance. Overnight in hotel.

Day 5: Panjakent - Seven Lakes (Haftkul) - Pajakent

After breakfast drive to Haft Kul: 7 teary lakes

Seven small lakes make up the Haft Kul, “ lakes”, in northwest Tajikistan. Legend says they’re the tears of the daughters of a missing man. Science says they were created after earthquakes altered the Shing River’s course.Whichever version you prefer, the Haft Kul road is one of Tajikistan’s most accessible treks; the perfect introduction to Tajikistan’s natural beauty. Aside from the azure lakes, there are plenty of villages to wander through, with many kind locals happy invite travelers for tea. 

The final lake of Haft Kul: Hazor Chashma, thousand springs.The slope is gentle, the altitude low (the the lake is around 2,400 m/7870 ft). After visiting all the lakes drive back to Panjakent for overnight. Overnight at hotel. 

Day 6: Penjikent - Iskanderkul - Dushanbe 

Drive to Iskanderkul (160km, 3h).According to the legend, the Lake Iskanderkul was named after Alexander the Great, known as Iskander in the East. People say that Alexander the Great's path to India passed by this lake. Later a short hike to 38m waterfall that is famous as "Fann's Niagara". Arrival and accommodation at guest house. 

After transfer to Dushanbe foe departure (160 km, 3h). Overnight at hotel. 

Day 7: Dushanbe - Airport 

After breakfast transfer to the airport for departure. End of tour!
