Expedition Overview: Embark on one of the world’s most legendary overland journeys along the Pamir Highway, crossing remote valleys, high-altitude plateaus, and ancient Silk Road landscapes. This 7-day expedition takes you from the capital of Tajikistan through the dramatic Wakhan Valley, along the Afghan border, and across some of the highest mountain passes in Central Asia before reaching Kyrgyzstan. Expect raw landscapes, cultural encounters, and extreme altitudes — a true adventure into the “Roof of the World.”
Day 1: Dushanbe – Kalai Khumb
Your journey begins in Dushanbe, heading south toward the Panj River.
Stop at the Nurek Dam viewpoint, one of the highest dams in the world
Visit local roadside markets
Explore the historic Hulbuk Fortress
Lunch break in Kulob
Continue through scenic valleys to Kalai Khumb.

Day 2: Kalai Khumb – Khorog
Follow the Panj River along the Afghan border toward Khorog, the capital of GBAO.
Visit the Khorog Botanical Garden
Walk through Khorog City Park
Stop at the De Pamiri Handicraft Centre
Explore the local bazaar

Day 3: Khorog – Wakhan Valley – Yamchun
Enter the legendary Wakhan Valley, one of the most scenic regions in Central Asia.

Relax at Bibi Fatima Hot Springs
Overnight: Guesthouse near Yamchun
Day 4: Yamchun – Vrang – Langar – Khargush Pass – Bulunkul
A day of history and high-altitude wilderness.

Explore the Langar Petroglyphs
Cross the remote Khargush Pass
Arrive in Bulunkul, one of the coldest inhabited places in Central Asia.
Visit Yashilkul Lake
Explore landscapes of the Tajik National Park

Day 5: Bulunkul – Alichur – Murghab
Drive across the vast Pamir plateau.
Stop in Alichur
Visit Aq Balyk Hot Spring
Optional visit to the Snow Leopard Rehabilitation Centre (if open)
Arrive in Murghab, the highest town in the country.

Day 6: Murghab – Karakul
Ascend to the highest point of the journey:
Cross Ak-Baital Pass (4,655 m), the highest pass on the Pamir Highway
Arrive at Karakul Lake, a stunning high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks.

Time to enjoy the dramatic alpine scenery

Day 7: Karakul – Kyzylart Border – Sary Tash – Osh
Drive to the Kyzylart Border
Cross into Kyrgyzstan
Continue via Sary Tash
