In the Ferghana Valley at an altitude of 630 meters above sea level in the northern foothills of the Turkestan Range, 25 kilometers northwest of Ura-Tyube, there is a sanatorium "Khavatag", which means "mountain air".
The mineral spring "Khawatag" was discovered by accident. In 1948, a well 1,300 meters deep was drilled in search of oil.
But instead of oil, a fountain of hot water came from the well. The study of the source showed that the hot mineral water "Khavatag" refers to the thermal waters of the sodium-chloride type, with a mineralization of 4 g / l, i.e. come close to the water of Essentuki springs.
So, a liter of water contains: nitrogen - 5560%, carbon dioxide 20-45%, oxygen - 0.1-1%. Hydrogen - 0.01-0.9%, helium - 0.5-1.5%, methane - 1-2%.
The microelement composition is rich: chlorine - 2000 mg / l, iron - 300 mg / l, boron - 14 mg / l, fluorine - 4.9 mg / l, strontium - 0.015 mg / l, lithium - 0.015 mg / l, vanadium - 0.001 mg/l.
As for the physical characteristics, the water has a smell - hydrogen sulfide, taste - slightly salty, pH - 6.8.
The above factors were the reason for the rapid development of the source, which was tested by the local population itself. This elemental experiment proved the high healing effectiveness of the source. In 1954, a bathroom building was built here. Specialists have been identified for the rational use of mineral waters and the study of their effect on the human body. Thus, on the outskirts of the Hungry Steppe, a hydropathic resort of the sanatorium type "Khavatag" began to be built, which grew and improved every year.
At the beginning, since 1975, "Khavatag" was a branch of the sanatorium "Ura-Tube", and since 1985, the sanatorium "Khavatag" began to function independently. The sanatorium has one main building and 10 small cottages of the "Finnish houses" type. In the main building there is a dining room for 145 seats.
At present, the sanatorium can accommodate 145 patients; in the future, it is planned to deploy another 500 beds.
The main building of the sanatorium is a balneary for 10 baths, where patients can take thermal baths up to 3-380 (water from the well has a temperature of 55-580). It should be noted that mineral water has a beneficial effect on the functional state of the central and peripheral nervous system, improves cerebral circulation, soft tissue trophism.
Internal applications of water restore the secretory function of the stomach due to the direct effect on the gastric mucosal secretion, normalization of the duodenal reflex and neurohumoral processes.
In addition to the balneological clinic, there is an electrotherapy room (UHF therapy, galvanization, inductothermy, diathermy, light baths).
According to climatic conditions, "Khawatag" is a sharply continental resort. Summers are dry, precipitation is rare, the average amount is 400 mm. April-June temperature 150- +300 C; July-August - +300 - +400 С; September-October +20 - +300 C. Relative humidity from June to September 23-25%; in October - 50-60;. Winds are frequent, very strong east and southeast. Dry winds blow in summer. Despite the high temperature, due to the dryness of the air, the heat is easily tolerated.
Currently, "Khavatag" is developing as a balneological resort, new wells are being drilled.
