The Khujand fortress is located in the left-bank part of the city of Khujand - the center of the Sughd region in the form of a high hill. The outpost was built by Alexander the Great in the 3rd century BC.
Khujand fortress fortified with defensive walls and gates, consists of Shahristan, Kuhendiz and Rabad. Khujand fortress in the sources of the 10th-10th centuries is already mentioned as kuhendiz, that is, an old fortress. Initially, the walls of the fortress were built exclusively from thick and dense pakhsa (clay wall).
The fortress existed for several centuries and was destroyed in the XII century, and later it was restored again and is a landmark of the republic.
